Plastic-free
drive at Asha
Plastic is
everywhere at all the Asha centres. Understanding the consequences of using
plastic consistently, Asha slums have pledged to promote the healthy and free
environment. The slums were already deprived and marginalized in terms of basic
amenities, have plastic trash all around. The accumulated garbage shows the
insects, mosquitoes and harmful bacteria can lead to various diseases. In order
to minimize it Asha slums had cleanliness drive amongst all the participants.
Asha slum communities includes Seelampur, Jeewan nagar, Chanderpuri, Ekta vihar
etc.
After few
days, the community member called Malaria inspectors and also asked the
municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD) workers went there to spray at the open
drains and channels. The malaria inspectors visited all the respective slums
and examined all the open drains and coolers etc. To ensure no dengue and
malaria mosquitoes can thrive.
Not only the
women of Mahila Mandal, Asha graduates and college students helped to clean the
ground.
